CERN
CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research) is in fact the birth-place of the
World Wide Web . One of the researchers of CERN, Dr. Tim Berners-Lee originated the hypertext transport protocol (
HTTP ) on which the World Wide Web is based.
Pronounced sern, and short for European Laboratory for Particle Physics (Conseil Europeen pour le Recherche Nucleaire in French), a research laboratory headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, and funded by many different countries. While most work deals with nuclear physics, the CERN is known for pioneering work in developing the World Wide Web portion of the Internet. The laboratory completed this work to improve the way scientists share information.
