ISDN
Digital telephone system that can provide high-speed (up to 128
Kbps ) transmission of voice and data.
Integrated
Services
Digital
Network means of connecting to digital networks, including the Internet, via a common (digital) telephone line. For a review of ISDN in accounting, see
Harding (1996) . It is the fastest way for many individuals to connect to digital networks via a modem. However, at the present capacity of 128,000 bps, it is very slow relative to cable TV modems that can do over 1 million bps and exponentially faster direct connections that do not use modems at all. (Integrated Services Digital Network) -- Basically a way to move more data over existing regular phone lines. ISDN is rapidly becoming available to much of the USA and in most markets it is priced very comparably to standard analog phone circuits. It can provide speeds of roughly 128,000 bits-per-second over regular phone lines. In practice, most people will be limited to 56,000 or 64,000 bits-per-second.
Integrated Services Digital Network. An emerging technology which is beginning to be offered by the telephone carriers of the world. ISDN combines voice and digital network services in a single medium making it possible to offer customers digital data services as well as voice connections through a single "wire." The standards that define ISDN are specified by CCITT.

ISDN ( Integrated Service Digital Network ) A tecnology that carries data over digital phone lines allowing 128Kbps data transfer rates for dialup users, but extends to fast broadband communications, too.Allows simultaneous transfer of voice, data and video information.CCITT defines the standards relating to ISDN.
