Alias
An alternative name for an object, such as a variable, file, or device. On Macintoshes, you can assign aliases for files, which allows you to have icons for the same file in different folders. Windows provides the same functionality but does not use the term alias. UNIX also supports aliases, but calls them links or symbolic links.
