LDAP

An emerging directory service protocol that uses a subset of the X.500 directory standard to provide a common way to identify user and group information. It can be extended to provide information on other network resources.(See Internet Messaging ).

Acronym for Lightweight Directory Access Protocol.It is a ptotocol for accessing information directories such as organizations,individuals,phone numbers,and addresses.It is based on the X.500 directory protocols,but it is simpler,and ulike X.500,it supports TCP/IP for internet usage.
